Heather Watson powerless against Carla Suárez Navarro at Italian Open

Heather Watson was dumped out of the Italian Open 6-1, 6-1 by Carla Suárez Navarro, the Spanish 10th seed.

The British No1 was broken in the opening game of the second-round match and she never recovered as the Suárez Navarro controlled proceedings in Rome, breaking twice more on her way to a quick-fire first set.

Watson squandered two break points in the third game of the second set as she tried to muster a response but the ground strokes of Suárez Navarro proved too much and the world No10 held her serve to take a 3-1 lead.

Suárez Navarro then flexed her muscles by rattling off the final three games to complete an emphatic victory against the world No41 and set up a third-round meeting with Eugenie Bouchard.
