David Saker is returning home as the new coach of the Victorian Bushrangers after five successful years as England’s bowling coach, including two winning Ashes campaigns.
Cricket Victoria confirmed on Friday that Saker had signed a three-year deal to replace Greg Shipperd, who led the state side to this year’s Sheffield Shield first-class domestic title.
Cricket Victoria said the England and Wales Cricket Board allowed him to end his contract early. Saker was England’s bowling coach when they won the Ashes from Australia in 2010-11 and 2013.
The 48-year-old Saker, who claimed 209 wickets in his playing career for Victoria from 1995-2000, will also coach the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash Twenty20 league.
